Event Dispatch Champ (EDC) is a lightweight, robust plugin for Unreal Engine 5 for broadcasting messages from any Object or Actor to others without needing object references.  This means Actors and Objects don’t need to know about each other in order to communicate.  This solves one of the main issues with Unreal’s built-in Event Dispatcher where listeners need an object reference for the Object or Actor that’s sending the message.  EDC has been designed to work completely in blueprints but has also been designed so it’s super simple to use in C++ too.

LIMITATIONS

  • As this is a C++ plugin and distributed through Gumroad, you’ll have to drop the plugin into your project manually.  But don’t worry, I’ve precompiled for all versions of the engine for you and instructions on installation are provided and simple!
  • EDC does not handle replication as it’s based on Game Instance.  Just like all systems like this you’ll have to handle any replication separately.
