Decal Champ (FREE Decal Tool for UE5)
*** Decal Champ has been updated to v1.2. New features include ability to add Emissive, Advanced Decal Blueprints for Triplanar and Parallax Occlusion Mapping, and a bunch of optimizations to improve memory, file cleanup. Decal Champ v1.2 is now only compatible with UE5.1 and above but v1.1 is still available to download if you're using UE5.0. Please see the README.txt in the downloaded zip file for more details.
For a run down of how to use the new v1.2 features, check out this video (https://youtu.be/u1hdN-JqqAs). If you're new to Decal Champ, first see the playlist below! ***
Decal Champ is a free Decal Generator for Unreal Engine 5. I made this to create great looking, performant decals with very limited texture inputs. While there are some decal templates (profiles) that come with this tool, it's designed to be flexible enough to build almost any type of decal using just a few texture maps.
Also, check out my free in-engine Texture Painting tool called Texture Paint Champ for UE5 (https://metaldonut.gumroad.com/l/TPC)
Key Benefits:
- Completely FREE!
- Requires very few texture maps (just Albedo and Normal maps required along with Greyscale masks which are included)
- Very simple to use (uses a single Blueprint)
- Offers basic and advanced (procedural) decal capabilities
- Focused on performance - simple decals will use cheaper materials
- Pre-populated profiles to help get started (Puddles, Brick Patches, Cracks, Blood, Sludge, Dirt, Stains etc.)
- Fully extensible - Additional texture maps can be added if required, runtime commands can also be added (i.e. fade over time)
Restrictions:
- Designed in and for Unreal Engine 5 only. v1.2 is only available with 5.1 and above, but I've left v1.1 available to download which works in 5.0.
Support:
- This tool is free and doesn't come with an official support channel. However, here is a direct link to the Explainer video to walk through how to use Decal Champ: https://youtu.be/NKLMXPQEf6E. I have also added some more tutorials to the playlist here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLQSzNwc3QR-o9hI-LQxqCzimjMfE6NbAv.
- While I can't commit to formal support/response, if you get really stuck or find any critical bugs, you can try contacting me at metaldonutgames@gmail.com.
